Our Savernake High Layout project continues to demand our attention for the foreseeable future. This project will require much more work and expenditure over the coming months but we are sure that it will make a great contribution to the local community as it represents part of its railway heritage and much of it still within memory of so many people.
Our work during this session concentrated on three areas; the first was the electrical system which is getting more complex while the second continues to laying out the scenery. Building construction is also fairly well advanced and is comparable to the original prototype, both demolished and others that remain to this day.
Photos are available to show the model of some buildings to compare against the prototype. These include the old station building, the then Lord Ailesbury’s waiting room, signal box, platform and the water tower. Not all are complete and still requires much work before installing these on to the layout.
Our next Club session will be held on Monday, 20th April 2020 staring at 19:00 hours. We are uncertain about the April session due to the Coronavirus and will keep this under review.

We can arrange availability of working layouts and demonstration of modelling techniques at local village fairs and other Community gatherings. Organisers are invited to contact us regarding their requirements.

The Club welcomes new members and any donations and gifts of unwanted model railway items. So, if you would like to try your hand at this hobby or have some equipment you are not using, please feel free to call me Sonny Hamid, on 01672 811 933.

Burbage & District Model Railway Club (BDMRC)  -  April Report

This month, April,  our group session had to be scrapped as a result of the lock-down imposed because of the Corona Virus spread.  Nevertheless, our Members have been busy progressing a task on their own including working on our major Savernake Project, looking at past layouts they had built and building smaller ones in their own home.
Member Gary Crooks has been reviewing the shuttle layout based loosely on a section of the Great Bedwyn station.  This layout is electronically controlled and moves the train from one end to another in a timed sequence pre-programmed by the Operator.

Member Chris Patrick has built a small lay out for himself and has been working on parts of the Savernake project. The small layout a raised area from his own West End fixed layout, Stageby.  The figures, being Chinese, are now allowed to associate and their number grows slowly.  Although they come painted, the paint is just slopped on and needs tidying up.  The single-track line to Stageby station runs round the foot of the raised area, the vertical wall (paper stuck on to card with wallpaper paste) needs painting brick red.

The Club has been considered to provide a layout for exhibition at the Historic Railway exhibition held annually at the Swindon’s STEAM Museum.  STEAM’s Deputy Manager informed us that other exhibits have already been booked for 202 and 2021 but we hope they will manage to “squeeze” us in for 2022!
