Good Companions.

Burbage Good Companions - Glenda Pearce

28/3/2020

In these difficult times I would like to send my best wishes to everyone.  We are not meeting at the moment as the message is “Stay Home, Stay Safe and Save Lives” but we are all thinking of each other and when this is over I know we will come back renewed and raring to go.

I wanted to make you aware of several pieces of information which may help during this period of  “lock down”.

The Burbage Parish Helpline telephone number is 01672 810853.  It is the Church Office telephone number.  It is being run by a small team of volunteers – they may not be able to solve every problem but might be able to put you in touch with someone who can help.  Please don’t be shy – ring this number if you need it.
If you need prescriptions collected there is a mechanism in place for this and there should be no problem with delivery – speak to the surgery.

Some of you may be experiencing difficulties with groceries - volunteers are doing a great job but the following may be useful:

• If you’re not self-isolating, and if you do go out to shop, please give a thought for a neighbour less fortunate.  Shopping for 2 households is likely to be more successful than our volunteers shopping for five or six.  If everyone in the Parish did this, the pressure would be off our outstanding volunteers.
•If you can’t get out, ask a neighbour for help.  Don’t wait to be asked BUT be considerate in what you ask for.
•Don’t forget the East Sands Stores and Post Office, support your local business
•If all else fails contact the helpline on 810853.

If you are one of the 1.5million who got a text from the NHS Coronavirus Service, and you are able to please register for support.  You will probably be allocated a volunteer from the half million NHS Volunteers and, more importantly you’ll be ‘on the radar’ ready for any future developments.  This not scaremongering – just common sense – do it if you can.

Social isolation can be just that – isolating.  We are trying to contact members on a regular basis to keep in touch, help where we can and try to keep spirits up.  Hopefully, we will not miss anyone out but you never know!

If you need to talk to anyone or are worried about anything please call me or any of the committee members (telephone numbers are on your card).

We will get through this difficult time and I look forward to the time when we can resume our meetings.
Best wishes and stay safe.
